Abstract

Citizen science, also known as public participation in scientific research and knowledge production, is gaining more and more recognition when proposing citizen science projects. However, concerns about data quality and processes of this type of projects are highlighted. To mitigate these problems, it is proposed to standardize good practices, emphasizing ensuring data quality in all phases of the life cycle. The main contribution of this work is to identify which are the best practices related to citizen science projects and, to investigate how these practices can be enriched with others related to data quality management and governance. As a result, MAR.CI.CI has been proposed, a framework to help institutions propose and execute their citizen science projects.
