This document describes the design and implementation of a miniaturized fractal microstrip antenna at 2.4 GHz operating frequency for application in portable devices. The antenna was developed considering the operating frequency and the characteristics of the material. The material used is RO4003C with dielectric permittivity εr = 3.38 and thickness h = 0.254 mm. Two miniaturization techniques were applied: shape and groove in the patch. The shape of the miniaturized patch was defined in the second iteration of the T-square fractal design. The antenna design optimization process was carried out through simulations in Ansoft Designer tool. The antenna was implemented with final design reached at S parameter value of -21 dB. Measurements were made with the transmitting and receiving antenna separated by 15 cm and input power of 15 dBm. The final patch design presented 46.65% miniaturization in size with respect to the original patch. The final antenna design optimization presented a 62.2% reduction in size with respect to the initial microstrip antenna.
